We can expect that MediaTek will release their new octa-core chip, part of the MT6592 chipset, in January 2014.

We can assume that it will be LTE version of the MT6592 chip plus the 8-core CPU. This means, that MediaTek will gain more positions in the smartphone market. Up until now they have been producing chips for the budget lineup of smartphones and tablets.

Will the Taiwanese company offer Qualcomm serious competition in the near future? We will wait and see.
